just some flower pics i took

As posted elsewhere,I'm very new to this game...just been taking photos of all sorts and looking for advice to where I'm going wrong or hopefully where I'm getting it correct

I have a Nikon D3000 have an 18-55 lens & a 70-300 lens

They are all nice and vibrant JIm - but the different aspect/framing of the last one is great, plus the plain background enhances this - it really appeals to me - nice work.

Were these shot indoors? I presume they were. You don't need flash if you have a tripod - natural light would probably get a more natural look. The first Gerbera shot seems to lack depth of field a little. In shot #2 it would be better to concentrate on one flower, rather than two as that makes the shot divisive to the viewer.

I like the last shot (lily), but it needs to be a square crop to remove the excess detail at the sides, and put more focus of attention on the central part of the shot, which is very nice. I did a quick edit just to show what I mean. Have a look at the flower shots on my website if you want some ideas.

Where abouts in Glasgow do you stay? I used to live in Helensburgh.
