    Aspens, Spring Snow.....

This is another image from the archive. Captured a few years ago after a spring snowfall.
Inspired to some degree by Adams' images of snow covered trees in Yosemite. This is an image I was not entirely satisfied with and I spent some time re editing.
I would welcome any thoughts members may have........

    Len,
This photo captures the essence of a wet and heavy spring snowfall. I can almost feel the dampness in the air that accompanies these weather events. I have tried many time to capture a snow laden forest but so far have not succeeded. Well done.

    Andre,
Thank you. I very much appreciate you taking the time to offer an opinion on this image.
The scene was captured early in the morning after an overnight snow fall.

Len - this type of scene is extremely challengng. There is really no significant centre of interest. Everything just blends together.

I generally try to get closer and concentrate on creating something to pull the viewer's attention when faced with this type of scene. An opening in the trees or some kind of path leading into the forest can work.

    Re: Aspens, Spring Snow.....

I would have to disagree with Manfred on this one. I think that the photo is quite compelling as it stands. The solid white band at the bottom anchors the mostly straight trees which provide ample interesting details to explore. I would see this printed very large( 4 x 6 feet or more) and hanging in the lobby of lodge.

I would agree that most of the time, a focal point is necessary but there are exceptions as with any composition rules. Recently, someone entered a photo of a row of parked shopping carts in a competition at a local photo club and score quite well. I also remember a published photo of a display of oranges that filled the frame. If it works, go for it.

Andre, thank you for your additional comments regarding the image of the snow covered aspens.
I concur with your observation regarding exceptions in composition "rules"
A 4 x6 foot print would be interesting to say the least but a little beyond my capabilities!
I have made a 10" x15" print on Canson's original Baryta Photographique paper with which I am quite pleased.
Once again your input is appreciated........
