Get Well Bouquet

I have succeeded in taking reasonably good photos of individuals flowers in the past(as long as you don't compare them to the work of Dank) but all my pictures of full bouquets have been rather dismal. I think that I have made some progress with this one.

You are right Andre, a beautiful image It would have been nice if the green leaves on the RHS hadn't been cropped. May be you can fix it by cloning the end part of the greens

I like that the exposure is just right...nothing too bright nor too dark. A favourite photographer of mine, Andrew Scrivani said that for beginners, start with a dark background to take care of the shadow problem. On another note, pity about the cropping on the right hand side. I would like to suggest too, to shoot more of the vase, event just a little bit to sort of balance the height of the shot. Just a thought...

I missed the leave sticking out of the frame on the right side. Interesting how a small detail can make such a big difference.

The light is natural light. My house has a large (8 ft wide by 5 ft tall) bay window facing roughly SouthEast and extending 18 in past the exterior wall. We have white sheers covering the glass panes. The centre pane is 5 ft by 5 ft and each side pane is about 20 in by 5 ft and set at 45 degrees from the wall. I used a black foam core leaning against the centre pane as a backdrop and adjusted the position of the bouquet to get the soft back light effect.

Izzie, I used spot metering to get the exposure because the dark background would have resulted over exposing the pale flowers otherwise. As for including more of the clear glass vase, that is beyond my skill level at the moment. I can take a decent picture of the vase or of the flowers but not both at once. Something to do with "family of angles". I suspect that Mike could do it but I haven't reached that skill level yet.

Consider trying different background colors or even using a gradient in the background for a softer effect that complements the flowers.

Love the detail better now that I do not have anything to complain about...I am particularly referring to the left hand side lighting of the geranium and dark pinkish little flowers on the R side which has nice lighting and showing not only the texture of them but the sharpness. Excellent job, Andre. Love it!!
