Hi Joe,
I think the subject is overpowered by the background I'm afraid.
The light was just not suitable for a good/great picture, although I accept it can look impressive at the time (been there, done that), it doesn't translate well to an image.
Fewer geese, so we can more readily identify individual birds, would also have helped.
I'm not sure how 'in' to PP you are, but you could try some dodging and burning to slightly reduce the background, but more importantly, brighten (and increase the contrast a little on) the geese. I would also crop some off the bottom and right hand edges, to help make the subject larger in the frame.

So lovely![]()
Thanks Dave. I always find your comments helpful. I fell in love with this shot more because of the background than the geese! I liked the blurred effect from the reflections and the large aperture. However I take your point that the background is overpowering and have tried darkening it and lightening the geese. Here is my effort on burning and dodging. I chose to leave the number of geese as I found them , after all it is a gaggle and I did not want to break up the family.
Joe, I like the darkened background and colors. The geese appear to be suspended in space which help to highlight them. IMHO it's a very good picture.
Joe for me the green reflections on the water really make the image for me. Your second images is an improvement IMO and very nice.

Love the image but also agree with Dave's comments about the crop. This is one where a little selective color work might also help. Thanks for sharing!
