    Tulips

In April/May there was a Tulip festival in Abbotsford. This is the first year that it has been done here and it was a great success. Although I have been incredibly busy of late I did manage to get there one morning. It was a great opportunity to try some flower photography out. With 10 acres of flower there was certainly lots of subjects to choose from. Here are just a few of the images I took.

Any comments and critiques are most welcome.

Excellent work, Rita. Far superior to my previous efforts down in Skagit Valley. Nicely done.

    Thanks John, Grahame, and Dan.

Dan, if I remember correctly didn't you have camera problems of some kind when you went to Skagit Valley?

    Rita,

Very nice set of images. I might suggest that a NIK Viveza (NIK is now free) small bit of structure increase might just make these images pop a bit without generating any nasties that over sharpening would produce.

Hi Richard, all of these except #2 have a slight viveza structure adjustment added (I love Nik, been using it about 3 years now). When I did it I was trying to be careful not to overdo the adjustment because I didn't want to lose the delicate look either. i will take another look this afternoon to see if I can bring it out more. Thanks for the feedback.

    Re: Tulips

Oh Rita...they are all beautiful. I was watching Hallmark's Movies Saturday and Sunday and they have a movie called Tulips In Spring. Of course the star of the show was able to find a tulip that they can put in the competition. It looks like the colour of your #1 tulip here but double petals one which the father of the star named Tulip Rose because the daughter's name is Rose.

#2 is equally excellent. I like the yellow orange background too and would have been more beautiful (I think) if the colour actually touch the tip of the petals at the back...just a thought.

#3 is and excellent compostion. Love its place in the diagonal pose.

#4 Just my opinion that you should have put the flower centrally in the frame because it is such a beauty on its own without any distracting background.

Thank you Nandakumar, Binnur, and Stu.

Izzie, thanks for the feedback. I will play with your suggestions for #2 and #4 and see what I think.
