Helpful Posts: I really liked this scene but I wanted a painted effect. I cropped a great deal of sky and gave the scene a lot of contrast and strong colours not present in the scene I saw. I think we are all allowed to take liberties with nature sometimes. I think this is my 20th edit.

20th edit!!!!
Whoa...give it a rest for a day without looking at it...what do you really want to achieve here? Are you still in Port Fairy or are you back in Melbourne? Do something. Other things. Don't even think about this while you are at it. Then come back fresh and you'll see it in another light. Or if you are still in Port Fairy, go back and reshoot. If I spend more than 30 minutes in editing one image, I'd go crazy. Sometimes 5 or 10 minutes is all it take to edit one image. Maybe you should have a workflow...Just a thought...

Some of us enjoy this hobby. There is no need to hurry and get it done in 5 minutes. I've been known to spend the better part of a week just to finesse a mask. I routinely try several different pp approaches on all my photos. I often reshoot the same scene multiple times. Sometimes I am not even trying to achieve anything! I just explore different possibilities. As long as the journey is interesting, I see no point in rushing to the destination just to start over again.

This version doesn't work for me. It looks too over processed for my liking.

Izzie, when we go to galleries, photographic or painting we often stand in front of an exhibit for a very long time. It takes time to look at a Monet, may even go back several times to one particular painting. For what reason I don't really know. That is only my opinion. Originally Posted by IzzieK

Sorry Ole...if I offend you. I did not mean to. That wasn't my intention. What I was meaning to say is if one has to spend so much time editing, like I used to do with my images when I was a "baby shooter", it will not really do me any good for a long time sitting down so long in front of the computer. Could be old age creeping up on me,who knows? But my point is to leave it a while, a day or two, so one has a fresher eye to look at it again and give it another try. Hi Ole,
On looking at your image my immediate reaction was to remember Dorothea McKeller's line "I love a sunburnt country..."
Whether it had been the painted effect you posted or the OOC image I think my reaction would have been the same - either way I would have liked it.
