Re: The kajigger...points if you can identify,
Ok easier than I thought it would be. So at least for us Yanks, anyone remember its designation? And/or its nickname?
Nothing worse than having c-rats and lacking one of these, but if someone had one it was like you know-who-showing up just in the nick of time....hint hint.

Re: The kajigger...points if you can identify,
Wasn't a boy scout in my time, so I won't know, but it will be nice to know, you know...
(I have not been a help eh? sorry...)

Yes, that is an opener cum tin cutter
It has a nice thematic abstraction nature too

Re: The kajigger...points if you can identify,
The real challenge is to identify the tabletop. Beats me!
By the way, you gave me a great idea for a photo...though not sure I can execute it.

Re: The kajigger...points if you can identify,
In Vietnam we called this item a "John Wayne" and many of us wore these on our "dog tag" chains. They are, of course, can openers for opening various cans of "C-Rations"
This was before the advent of freeze dried field rations...

Re: The kajigger...points if you can identify,
I keep a couple around. one in the jeep and the truck is in the middle of a four wheel drive conversion. but one will go in there too.
We call the a P38.

Re: The kajigger...points if you can identify,
So it appears the P38/John Wayne is not as obscure as I thought it would be. I was going through some things the other day and came across the John Wayne, still attached to my old dog tags. And definitely needed for C-rats. From what I remember the can of beans wasn't too bad. the ham and eggs on the other hand....there was a special name for them.
Thanks all for playing along.
