Really like this Brian, the texture on the petals is awesome as well as the lighting!

Natural sunlight, nice shadows and some outrageous curve manipulations plus some of my old favourites in Gimp.

That's what I was trying to achieve. The three distinct layers, fore, mid and rear all have marvelous patterns and textures. Finding a good (not I admit perfect balance) between them was an interesting challenge.

I like it. I especially like that you refrain from using complete black background. It is more pleasing the natural way.

I agree. Black backgrounds have their place but it is not in this shot

I like how the flower is positioned and also like the intricate design within the petals. However, the image (it may be my monitor) seems a bit flat and muddy. I wanted to separate the flower from the background so I added a bit of brightness and contrast to the flower as well as a tad of sharpening. I then added a slight vignette...

and it looks better. I am going to have to learn how to do a vignette in gimp.

Brian ... if you can reduce the intensity of the brush applying a colour then painting in a dark colour in stages could be an answer. Here I used a soft 20% brush using black .....This was just two sweeps with the brush with a smaller brush for the second, a thuird sweep could have darkened the corners but I didn't want to wreck a lovely shot.

I hope you find a solution to your mobility problem, awhile back a picture was posted of a mobility scooter with camera mounted on it but I forget the name ... sorry. Maybe the owner will post it again or give a link to it ?

The eyes are drawn to the main subject which is beautiful , the PP on the corners is well done and enhances the photo .

I really like this one, Brian. A nicely done image. I'll leave the technical recommendations to others and keep my comments simple. I like it. Good job.

Beautiful image. Works well in the square format. I'm not a fan of vignette and and I prefer your original (sorry Richard). I suppose it's a matter of personal taste.

Nice image. Beautiful detail on the pedals and I like how the flower comes down into the shot from the top.

Hi Brian, very nice image . I think my preference would be something between your original and Richard's edit, if the image was mine
