Nice capture.
I think I'll try pulling the foreground back out of the shadows to reveal more detail while keeping Whitney in it's golden moment. Maybe by composite like I did on another shot. I need to start using Gimp more anyway.
I suspect that brightening the foreground is going to make it look too 'muddy'. In which case, a crop of the foreground and a more panoramic ratio might be an alternative.
You might be able to somewhat improve it if...your ISO was 100, and ya don't go crazy.I suspect that brightening the foreground is going to make it look too 'muddy'.
Actually, the blacks were pulled down to give it a silhouette foreground. There is a lot of foreground detail in the raw file. I'll play with it tonight.
I like the image.
You have some hidden light on the water from the peaks. You might try selecting the water and bring up the light and color a little. Might balance the image.
Ya gotta keep up with the news...some idiot names it Mt. Obama.
LOL, news hasn't been news for decades. That's why I don't watch it![]()
I'd try and bring out the foreground a bit more, but I don't like the crop off the bottom in the 2nd one.. .stick with the original, looks like it could have some nice light on the water.![]()
No, someone dedicated it first to Whitney Houston...
Very nice shot, Jim...I agree with Ziggy to lighten up the water foreground a bit...i might be more interesting...but hey, ignore me -- I am looking at everything and the next two days with one eye on and one eye off...
Dang, I actually posted a different shot! I think I'm going to have to spring for a calibrator for my monitor and stick to that when processing. I have a decent flat screen set-up so I can plug it into my laptop, but I get lazy and sit in the living room doing PP. Too hot in the bedroom. It's amazing just how different both of these shots look between my computer at work under fluorescent lighting and my laptop screen under incandescent lighting. At home, the foreground is about a full stop lighter.
Ohhh, Josiah Whitney is turning over in his grave.
Thought you would trick us by posting a different image did yah? Well it worked in my case.
I think a pano crop of image one is your best option. The foreground is just too muddy in example two (despite it being, as I am now aware, a different image but the principle remains)
I find the composition better in #1, so I would try lifting the shadows for a more balanced look![]()
I dont' think it's my screens. I think Flickr jacks with my shots. When I view or pull them down from Flickr, they seem darker. Not so much for the bright images, but for the more subdued lighting shots, it's very apparent.
Thank you Izzie
