    This afternoons exercise walk

I'm currently recuperating following surgery. One of my exercises requires me to walk around the house, eventually I will be allowed to venture out and walk around the local area .

Today (day six of my recuperation) I decided to up the ante a little and include venturing over the doorstep and to include taking a few photographs in to my exercise routine.

Mind you I did chicken out a little and decided to blow the dust off a 350D body (I can't lift anything heavy for six to eight weeks) for my exercises.

I hope you enjoy joining in with my exercise routine

Exif all ISO400, Canon 350D and 18-55mm lens @f9 but slightly different shutter speeds which I shall add on to the # numbers

I've never seen such flowers and really like the details you've captured. The lucy lockett on a grey background is quite handsome.

Here's to a speedy recovery and many more days behind the lens. Get well soon!

I hope your recuperation goes as well as can be reasonably expected.

All of the photos are nice but the first one is especially captivating for me. The colors, textures, details, negative space, soft shadows and depth of field come together to work exceptionally well. My only nit pick is that the bright white stain in the upper area of the background is a small distraction.

Very interesting subjects, none of which I am familiar with (thats always fun to see) and expertly captured. Hope you have a speedy recovery and lots of things to take shots of close by.

Now that explains your absence...I like all of them but what caught my attention was your Joyce which is interesting to say the least. It reminds me of David's bee on another post even if the pollen on his is yellow.

Hope you get well soon enough and if only in Day 6 out of 6-8 weeks you can do this beautiful images, you can do so much more when your total recovery is finished. You will be up and about soon enough. Do take care and don't push yourself.

    Hi Peter,

These are great examples of how simple compositions should work for such subjects.

Nice processing too - my only nitpick would be the watermark, which despite being small, still distracts - I find I am unable to view a photograph with a watermark without reading it - so perhaps it's my problem.
However, if you look back to my shots in 2008, you'll see I once used 'em too

May I also wish you a speedy recovery, Dave

These pictures are just awesome. I never saw those flowers before, and my favorites are 1 & 2.

Thanks Kris and John, much appreciated. I did manage to capture some different flowers yesterday during my exercise session but didn't get round to posting any yet.
The subject matter in this thread are all different varieties of Auricular's. The problem I have is that they all flower at slightly different times so it's difficult to show six different varieties in bloom at the same time in the theatre.
I was given the theatre and some plants by a friend who emigrated to New Zealand with his wife to be near to their children and grandchildren.
I have one called "Winifred" which was my friends mothers name. I'm hoping to be able to propagate at least three of Winifred to display and photograph in the theatre to send on to NZ. Sometimes nature just won't cooperate but...patience is a virtue so I shall continue with this challenge.

That sounds like a PP challenge in the making Peter - photograph as each comes in to bloom, import in to your image editor on separate layers and combine with masks for a composite showing all 6 in bloom - it might confound the knowlegdeable horticulturists, but make a nice image for the rest of us

Good call Dave, whilst I'm waiting for the Winifred's to bloom I may practise with Joyce (#3 above) who is taking her time to open out. Thanks for the inspiration.
