    Not quite ready for harvest

I thought I should try to post an image here from my Flickr account really to see if I could and also to see if there is any discernible change to the image when compared to using the TinyPics option.

So this is where I would really appreciate your thoughts (not particularly on the image but feel free to do so) but more if any difference is visible to your eyes wrt sharpness, colour, tone.

    Thanks in anticipation

When I view them in the Lytebox and toggle back and forth between them, I detect no difference.

    Is the crop corn?

Oh now you're asking Mike I will ask She Who Must Be Obeyed (SWMBO) I'm sure Ann will have the answer.

Thanks for comparing the image Mike, I've read (on other forum) that some hosting sites add unwanted artefacts and sharpening etc. when images are link to on the hosting sites.
My eyes are not that clever at discerning subtle changes, hence my post here. Thanks again much appreciated.

For me, there is far more colour depth/saturation with the Tinypics upload when viewed at full size.

Regarding the actual image, I think you could give it just a little bit more 'pop'. Possibly just a fraction more highlight brightness? Or maybe a bit of LCE etc. The foreground seems a bit bland at the moment.

    LCE = local contrast enhancement

FWIW, I took screen shots of both images and pulled them both into PS, stacked them and applied three color samplers.

That's closer than my eye can discern.

Re: Not quite ready for harvest

If you haven't tried it before, Peter, LCE means using Unsharp Mask at a small amount but large radius. Say Amount 30, Radius 30, Threshold 0 or 1. But you vary these settings as required

It gives a bit of extra contrast and increases apparent saturation. Some people use it all the time, but it can easily be misused. There are a number of other effects which produce similar results; but they depend on your software.

When looking once again at those two images I still get more from the Tinypics method. Not on the corn, which stays the same, but most noticeable on the hilltop areas.

I can't see a difference and I hope I am right because I always use Flickr.

And by the way I like the image.

The similarity of those numbers is what I would expect based on what I saw. Thanks for making me feel better because I really don't understand why Geoff's system would display the two files differently.

I would also say Barley, much better to make beer or whisky with than the other grains.

    Is the crop corn?
Of course the crop is corn, if it's in the UK, as long as it's the most abundant crop in the area, if it's not, however, it can be barley-isn't that how it goes Peter?

I thought I noticed slightly brighter colors in the hills in the flickr image, but I could be mistaken somehow.

Re: Not quite ready for harvest

Thanks for all of your comments they are much appreciated.
I have now looked at and used the LCE (TLA sorry) it worked for me so thanks for the explanation on its use Geoff. I shall add it to my potential methods when post processing.

Thanks also to Wm (Chauncey) for reminding me that I had the ability to check for colour measurements in PS. The things you forget about eh!. Now don't get me started on what my mobile phone number is

    Thanks again every one.
