    Too much of the image is out of focus to appeal to me. I would crop but I'm not sure where. The whites of the flower are somewhat blown. The dead leaf doesn't do a lot for the image.

    Rotating would seem the natural thing to do, but isn't this the natural (or unnatural) position.

    Good Morning Brian. I would suggest trying something different.

    Take a light soft cloth and drape it over the background before you shoot. Set your DoF shallow enough so that the cloth texture isn't visible then get the subject as sharp as you can. I think you will find that by reducing the contrasty and busy background, your cropping choices will be much easier to evaluate. This should work for your critter shots as well.
