This little guy was only 5mm if that, and a nightmare to photograph,every time i clicked the shutter he jumped!

If it was the sound of the shutter that spooked it, use a camera that has a quiet shutter mode.

It reminds me of my friend who saw a jumping spider in the our safari vehicle when we were very close to a pride of lions feeding on their wildebeest kill. When our guide went to her area of the vehicle to brush it away, she hung outside the vehicle from the opposite side even though being outside the vehicle in any circumstance is normally forbidden around animals. I asked whether she would prefer being confronted by the spider or the lions. She instantly responded without missing a heart beat: "The lions. It will be quicker."

Nice shot. Comp looks pretty good. Colors are nice, sharpness good. I have always loved these little guys, they are so "cute" in my opinion. Next year when things warm up, I plan to get some kind of decent handheld flash setup for bug shots. When you get mega macro on bugs, it gets epic, really fast.

Hehe, if only! I know you're kind of joking, but actually I wish this was implemented better. My 7D has quiet modes, but only in live view. Hence, for moving subjects and situations where focus is critical, it is essentially useless. I have tried to view animals on the live view screen and focus in live view. It is a lesson in frustration. Now, if Canon could just implement a translucent mirror technology (like the sony alpha) silent mode could be used in all cases...

Hi Mike,to be honest i think it was the flash that spooked him?he never stayed long enough to ask
Great story,my youngest son 23years old,would have fought his way through the lions if it landed on him!lol

Hi Matt,this was shot with a 7d,when i try live view in macro i find it too dark,also the majority of my macro is hand held so this is not an option.
