Street of shadows C &C please.

I have posted this online a number of times and have had a mixed reaction about it. Personally I like it.

Well captured. Not a particular focal point. The car distract from the shadows a bit.

OK, you like it. I don't see anything wrong with it other than it doesn't particularly 'grab' me.

So, in order to provide you with more effective feedback than a simple like/don't like, what is it that you are interested in improving?

What emotion do you feel this image should evoke in the viewer? What image element(s) do you feel should create that emotion? If you don't feel that it is working as well as it could, what aspect of the image do you feel needs to change and why? Help us out a bit here, Warrick.

Tight and narrow crops can really lack the balance you get from a landscape photo (orientation, not hilltop-communing-with-nature-stuff), but if you have a focal point, it can work. I agree with Chris, no real focal point, and also I agree with Frank, doesn't really grab me.

Photography is about commitment. If it is a photo of a street shadow that is about all I need to see. Even just cropping it so there is no sky will emphasis the shadow but I think the real oportunity was the shadow, road markings and paving.

Thanks for all your comments. It was the shadow that caught my eye as I walked past. And I can now see about there not being a focal point. Below is a cropped version just showing the shadow and pavings.

Street of shadows C &C please.

That is a bit more commitment. Next time something takes your eye work with and take plenty of shots trying different angles and compositions.
The yellow line on the edge makes it a little hard to get a totally successful composition out of this photo but if it was mine I would see what it looked liked cropping the left hand edge so the shadow comes out of a corner and become a strong diagonal component.

Sorry it becomes a totally different photo - but you did ask and may be it reflects my style not yours.
