Prograf Pro 1100: wow

I posted earlier that I bought a Canon Prograf Pro 1100 rather than replace the head on my old Pro 1000. A print I made yesterday on the new printer blew me away.

I had done a few prints already on coated paper, and they didn't look markedly different. However, my new drill to protect against clogs is that if I am not printing for other reasons, I will occasionally print small (5 x 7) prints that I call "utility prints", things I don't want but just do to keep the printer healthy. My problem with the 1000 led me to doing two: one color print on coated paper, and a second B&W printer on matte paper to clear the matte black nozzles. It was matte black that killed my 1000.

Yesterday I printed it for the first time, using my everyday matte paper, not anything high-end: Moab Lasal Exhibition Matte. I was simply blown away by the blacks. I was so struck by the print that I decided to bump another photo from a set of 5 I'm about to submit to try to jury into an art society in the Boston area.

I had read that better blacks is one of the biggest changes in going from the 1000 to the 1100, e.g., https://www.digitalcameraworld.com/t...ro-1100-review. However, I was not prepared for how big a change it is.

Wow, the blacks really make this image pop. Amazing detail on matte paper - I'd say the Pro-1100 is earning its reputation.
