Hoar Frost

I am looking for suggestions on how to process this hoar frost covered tree on a cold foggy morning.

Unfortunately there is little difference in colour between the tree and sky. If it had been a bright blue sky this would be an excellent scene.

Maybe try auto selection of the sky colour and increase the contrast. But probably not easy to achieve.

Andre, I am inclined to agree with Geoff. Shots such as these can be a bit of a challenge. Playing with the contrast would probably be a good starting point. A lighter sky perhaps?
I captured a similar image a couple of years ago along a nearby river. See attached.
I am also reminded of photographs of oak trees taken by Adams in Yosemite where the frost is quite dark.........

Thanks Geoff, I agree that a blue sky would be nice. There is no sky at all in this one. The background is freezing fog. I was hoping to make a high key image. My first inclination is to increase the exposure to whiten the fog and keep the contrast low except maybe for the tree itself.

Thanks Len. Yours is closer to what I was aiming for. The fog in mine needed to be a bit denser close to the tree.

My intent with this photo is to create a high key image. I have cloned out distracting elements and adjusted the exposure to bring the fog as close as possible to pure white without "blowing it". Would it help to modify the contrast slightly?

Andre, I like the direction you have taken with this image. Perhaps the tree could use a little more contrast to darken the branches? Although it is a matter of personal taste, I would be inclined to add a touch of blue to the fog.....

The original had a tinge of blue in the fog. I removed it to try to enhance the high key effect but I think that I will put it back as well as some of the dark gradient that I almost totally removed. The pale yellow grass and the subtle blue fog should complement each other well.

I decided to keep the white fog but I reintroduced the gradient.
