    Fly making bubble

This fly spent several hours on the outside my window making bubbles giving me an almost ideal opportunity to practice macro photography. I don't know what kind of fly it was except that it is very common in this area. As to the bubbles, I have no idea why it was making them.

Some types of fly ear be ejecting a saliva-like substance to dissolve their food. Why it would be doing it on a window is another matter.

And why it would stay in one spot making a bubble then sucking it back in for over five hours is even more of a puzzle.

Sucking it back in is how they eat. What's weird is doing it when there is apparently no food. My guess is that that particular fly was not long for this world. My understanding--keep in mind that I'm no expert--is that common species of house flies have a life span of 20-30 days, from newly laid egg to death.

Your hypothesis makes sense to me. Maybe it got dementia and thought that it was eating a big meal!
