    Neonatal butterfly

These two pictures of a yellow migrant were taken 15 minutes apart. The actual emergence of the butterfly took just a few seconds.

Great shots Tony, especially #2. The entire process of metamorphosis is just simply amazing. Great captures.

Nice captures, tony. You really have to be in the right place at the right time to shoot a sequence like this. Had you been watching and waiting for this moment?

We used to have a friend who planted a butterfly garden. Then she gets the cocoon and put it in a bottle. She took some photos and also draw it with some childish explanation. She made that into a book for the grandkiddies. Unfortunately for her, at the time, we were staying at the inn where there were books and a little breakfast place for visitors. I picked up a butterfly book. The wordings and illustrations were almost like hers in her then home. (She divorced our friend much later on.) Anyway I showed hubby the book. His face! you cannot just possibly invent that expression. Kodak moment! When he finally came about, he said "She is a plagiarist!" Anyway, the next day, we did not see the book on the shelf -- she them all out. Strewth!!! I don't know if she got away with that...our friend, her then husband, is a very good lawyer.

Thanks everyone for all the nice comments.

Izzie, there was no bottle involved with these, they were all taken outside on the actual tree.

I was in the right place at the right time. The pictures were taken during the period a while ago when the butterflies in Brisbane were in great abundance. We happened to have a tree which was the favourite of the yellow migrants. These were relatively easy to photograph because they were still and too preoccupied to be worried about me.
