Well Donald this is called a Face Off. At the beginning of the match and after every goal the ball is placed between the sticks of the 2 opposing players. They then wrestle and jiggle whilst their team members rush in from the outer circle to hopefully gain possession of the ball when it is released. Here are a couple more photos to hopefully make things a little clearer and one at the end to show what the girls do for a face off - more face less off

P.S. The girl with "Believe written on her arm was from Scotland.......and the other girl was Welsh......it was a hard fought battle for 5th and 6th place in the World Championships.....the standings at the end of the match was 6th place Scotland, 5th placed Wales.....Celtic Pride whatever the result.

Well Donald this is called a Face Off.

I never knew that was how the game was started. In the game I played, shinty, the game is started by a throw-up ... which used to, with boring regularity, cause much hilarity in the press.

And that is a great picture of a face-off. Captures all the energy of the start of play.
