    Topaz remask

Iv received an offer from topaz offering 50% off their remask plugin. Has anybody used it, is it worth the money?

It's not expensive and it is really good. It allows you to cut out part of an image as a layer and clean it up before you use it. By allowing you to differentiate between colours, you can also do a fair job of cutting out fine detail like hair. I use it quite a lot and found it one of the more worth while plug-ins to invest in.

    Mark,

I have that plugin and several of their other ones - it's a very quick and effective solution. After just seeing your second post - go for the upgrade, it should be free anyway if you have a paid for version of 3 and it is worth it.

Hi Steve, ive just checked for updates and it isnt free one of the reviews on the topaz site stated that the v4 wasnt worth the money as there were no significant changes, so im thinking ill stay with v3 for now, are you using v4, did you upgrade from v3 and did you have to pay for it if you did?

    Mark,

are you using v4 - Yes
did you upgrade from v3 - Yes
and did you have to pay for it if you did - No

As far as I can remember I d/loaded the V4 free trial install and used / or it just picked up, the reg keys from V3.

All updates to their products since I bought them (2 years or so ago) have been free.

I have the Remask 4 version and except for layout, I really don't see anything else. Remask 4 is quick and easy and saves me a lot of frustration.

Hi Mark. I use ReMask V3 for almost all my masking work. I also use Topaz Adjust, DeJpeg, and DeNoise on a regular basis.

    Re: Topaz remask

You will have gathered by now that the upgrade from 3 to 4 should be free. The changes are not just cosmetic. There has been some useful improvements to functionality for instance you can now zoom in and out using the scroll wheel which I find very useful and the sliders for the adjustment of brush size is now smoother and operates in the same way as PS in that you can either drag the slider or just click on the scale where you want the slider to go to. There will be others but those improvements removed some frustration from my workflow. Whether this is enough to pay the full price is a personal decision but if you can convince them to give you the upgrade for free ...................

    Hi John,

It says in their terms and conditions that upgrades are free for ever, but im buggered if i can figure out how to download them, when i try it directs me to version 3.2 which i already have and sends me a 30 trial key code, ive mailed them to ask what im doing wrong.

    Re: Topaz remask

Did you try the "get updates' within Remask? Maybe that will work.

Now that John mentioned it, the slider and zooming feature is indeed helpful though I probably rarely use it once gotten used to.

The update should be free. In anycase I wouldn't worry too much as all features are there with perhaps some user friendly notes which John pointed out.

    Re: Topaz remask

Mark, all that seems to happen with a so called up grade is that you download the prime software at V4 (not a special upgrade version) and then you register it using your current V3 key. It isn't an upgrade per se. I still have V3 on my computer and it still works i.e. it hasn't been "updated" so much as replaced.

I got the same message when trying to update V3 so I downloaded the V4 trial version. When I opened PS, both versions of ReMask were available. When I tested V4, it didn't ask me to enter the key so we'll see if it continues to work after the trial period.

    Re: Topaz remask

    Hi all,

Tech support have been in touch and have been very helpful, theve added my key to my account and given me a page address below to get the downloads whith out going through the checkout or free trial bull.

APPARENTLY THE CHECK FOR UPDATES OPTION ON ALL OF THEIR SOFTWARE HAS A BUG AND DOES NOT WORK.... they are working on a fix but how you will know to download the fix when its done is still a bit vauge

so you need to check your version which can be found in the menu-about tab when you open the program and compare it manually against the version on the link below.

I have checked all of mine and only DJPEG was up to date

it was so much more less hasstle before i decided to learn to use all this software that ive got

    Link for download page below.
