This is the first time I have ever seen such a nice a shell of a snail I like the shot very much Geoff. No blown out highlights, nice colours and details, nice composition.

This was the first quick shot when I realised the angle looked promising; and it worked better than the others where I couldn't quite get its head looking good. Foliage was rather restricting.

All you can do with this sort of shot is to expose for the brightest area then recover what you can during editing.

I did give it a final tweak with a little bit of extra highlight brightness which was selectively applied. Possibly I might have got away with using just a fraction more. It was an overcast day, which was a great help; they tend to over expose on the shell with any sunshine.

Amber Snails like wet boggy areas, they aren't rare but not commonplace either.
