    Fishing boats at dawn

We presently have over 100 laid up and also derelict fishing boats anchored in our harbour in Suva and questions are finally being asked why and how. For some time I considered trying a panorama so had a go yesterday evening and at sunrise today but having stitched them realised it was not anything I wanted.

Anyway, here's a couple of single frames taken around 15 minutes apart this morning, the sun when it appeared was directly behind me.

    No 1 - 1/10s, f/16, ISO200

    No 2 - 1/160, f/11, ISO200

Comments and suggestions welcome as always.

Nicely done, would be a person's personal preference which one is more appealing.

Thank you John, I have no preference and just see them as two shots with different lighting.

Hi Graham, I like #1 for the sky and I think knowing the story about them been derelict kinda gives me the feeling #1 with its coolness lends iitself to the story more. Looking forward to seeing more

Each of these is great but this is another example where the two together are greater than the sum of the parts. A lovely scene and colours.

Both shots are interesting for totally different reasons. These shots are a good demonstration of how much difference light makes on a scene.

Very beautiful Grahame. Each tells its own story via the lights. Does these derelict boats means they are beyond repair? Just curious...

Very nice, Grahame. I'm partial to the tones and separation of three layers of mountains in the first one.

Nice shots Grahame, I prefer #1, although the derelict boats have a story, I think your rugged background has a mystic like story too.

Hi Claudio, I'll certainly be exploring some of these a bit more.

Thank you Tony, it's one of those scenes that has many colours to explore, I just wish we had some decent sunsets at this time.

Hi Kaye, I'll get one of the stitched images finished and post, but I'm not too happy with them so far.

Very nice and beautifully sharp images as always.

The first is my favourite for the beautiful soft colours and the way the mountains are arranged in partial silhouette, and for the pink sky and the reflection of the colour on the water.

Fully agree Dan, I have taken shots of this view at times in the daytime and never kept a single one.

Hi Izzie, many of the boats have been laid up due to this time of year being the off season for tuna fishing and Fiji is a cheap place for the owners from other countries to leave them.

There are also many that have been left by foreign owners who have gone out of business due to the slump in the industry and these are becoming the main issue because Fiji is left sorting safety and pollution problems with no resource to claiming from owners and red tape making the easiest solution to tow them out of the harbour and sink them difficult.

Thanks Mike, early morning seems to be about the only time I can get a decent clear shot of this mountain range where the layers are so pronounced. I tried to pull out some detail in the farthest layer but failed.
