A Few Birds in Flight

Here are a few shots that I took at Hagerman Wildlife Refuge in north Texas yesterday. C&C always welcome.

Mallards. I also tried a crop of this without the reflection but it was an odd size. I wasn't actually looking at these birds when they suddenly flew. I swung to get the shot but I believe the autofocus got the water splashes sharper than the birds.





American Kestrel. This little guy was really too far but I love them so I took it anyway. This is already cropped over 50% so I didn't want to go any further. He hovered for a long time.

Wow Terri! Between the detail in the water splashes and reflection, that first one is stunning.

There are a number of things you could wish for from capturing the wing tips a little sharper to having a bit more space around the birds and reflections but in a situation like this you get what you can - and this is one very impressive image to add to your portfolio!

Yes, wow! Ducks in flight, reflections, splashes, beautiful light and colour. This image will be first and foremost in my mind the next time I try some duck photos.They fly so fast! Amazing capture. (the 2nd image is gorgeous, too)
