A question of filters

I use Singh-Ray resin GND filters exclusively. I too was worried about scratches etc, but in reality, it just isn't an issue; I think they're far too close to the front element to make any difference.

Colin – I appreciate your comments, but resins are still soft and are relatively easy to scratch, even with careful compounding and surface treatments. If I look at some of my high end resin filters under magnification and oblique lighting, I do see small scratches after several years of service. I’ll stick with glass wherever I can.

They are not quite the bargain on this side of the Atlantic, Mike. I have had a look at this brand as well, and pricewise they tend to be in the same price range as the other brands. Their HiTech line seems to be a bit less expensive.

The main reason I am looking at this type of filter is that I also shot a fair bit of video on some fairly high end gear, and going with Precison / Schneider gives me the opportunity to share matte boxes and filters between still and video cameras.

Another source is Griturn, a UK company which will supply Lee and also their 'house brand' which I guess are plastic being cheaper. They have a very comprehensive range of filters and will make specialist gear.
