Have been meaning to for a while. But have a problem getting there. I am in HK a couple of times a year and can easily hop over but for some reason the insurance people will not let me take out travel insurance.

    Will find a way hopefully.

I'd love to visit the Philippines again. There may have been some improvements there in infrastruture, since I last visited, but my favorite thing about the Philippines, the Filipino People, need absolutely no improvement.

    Ai, thanks kabayan

Bobo, visiting our country is perfectly safe. You can choose from a variety of destinations from the north in Ilocos or Cagayan to the deep south like Zamboanga, Cebu or Palawan. We have colorful festivals to shoot all year round. And the food is something you will not soon forget.

Richard, again thanks for the kind words. Please do visit us again soon. I'll can go with you to some of the spots we usually shoot it.

James it's not Ai, AL haha. Yeah right, there are thousands of interesting destinations here in the country and until now I haven't finished travelling all of them. Sagada is one among the most colorful place here. Come summer I hope I can go to Mt. Pulag and hike and capture the sunrise.

Oops, my bad! Hehehe! My goal by early next year is to finally plant my tripod in Batanes. That is the last frontier for me in the Philippines.

Thanks Peter! I love your monos!

Yupeee! How I wish I could be there too, if fate permits me...why not? Batanes is the ultimate destination for photo enthusiast! Good luck James!

    Re: Going Wide

It has been a rough couple of months for me photographically.

Work has been keeping me away from the sea's and the skies and I for a time I felt that I've lost my vision.
Fortunately, I started to visit our clients in different parts of the country and was able to shoot some images again.

Sharing some more from my recent travels in my beautiful Philippines

Wonderful photos James. The color ones are exceptional, but B/W are even better. WOW! It is a joy to look at them. Thank you very much for sharing with us the beauty of your work and your country. I've never been there and looking at your photos it's just coming to dream a trip

I'm using Nikon entry level D3000 with 18-105mm kit lens and Lightroom for post processing, but my photos are far from the ones depicted here. I wonder what is the ratio between my personal skills and the way my camera and PP software bring to the final photo, because it's much more fun to improve oneself than buying ever more (expensive) equipment.

Keep up the good work and share it with us

thank for the kind words Igor

Although equipment does play a critical role, the skill set is even more vital to get the effects that I wanted to achieve. And it took a lot of trial and error before I got anywhere near those images.

The D3000, however, is a good entry level cam with about the same if not a better sensor with the D90 that Im using right now. And aside from the the BW conversion, my PP workflow is very basic, consisting mainly of contrast adjustment, dodge and burn, re-sizing and sharpening.

Great shots James. I like the wide lens very much, but I have to think a bit more on the shots I use it for. These are good examples

    James

I completely missed the entries in June (I was away on holiday/vacation) and only now, with this new series in post #29, have I seen your work.

My compliments - They are all of a very high quality. Not only do you create excellent compositions, but your use of light is impressive.

I look forward to seeing a lot more of your work.

    I have the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8. I love it.

    Re: Going Wide

@John & Peter - thanks guys, I really appreciate it!

@ Donald - Thanks for the kind words sir. The Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 is actually my dream lens before but due to budget constraints, I had to settle for the less expensive but equally good Tokina 12-24 f/4.

It took a lot of trials for me to get to those images and I know I still a lot of learning to do. There is always room for improvement.

    Re: Going Wide

Its been almost 3 months since my last post here and sadly these might well be some of my last.

I've decided to take some time off from photography. I already sold off most of my gear and my hard drive filled with my RAW and PSD files has been tucked away under my desk.

I hope to get back eventually.

In the mean time, I'd like to share some of the last images I took for 2011.

    Happy New Year guys!

    James,
I only just came across your pictures today, as I've not been a member here very long...
Your images are inspirational and beautiful... I aspire to being able to achieve what you have.
I'm sorry to hear you're stopping and have sold most of your gear.
Hope the break from photography is not too long..!
    Best wishes for 2012

But, you will be more than welcome to get back. Let it be without that "eventually"
Your photos bring smile to the face, warmth to the hearth and sparkle in the eye.
