    Special Delivery

If storks really did deliver babies, it would be these that would do it in the U.S.A. These are the only storks that breed in the U.S. Wood storks are named because of their woody like neck and beak. The neck starts out much smoother and with age develops it rougher texture. Their flight is odd looking and their landing is extremely awkward.

    CC always welcome and appreciated.

Good in so many ways, knowing the issues a wildlife 'tog faces, I cannot offer any useful C&C Barbara.

Order of preference; 1, 3, 2 - mainly because 2 is the easiest to achieve by chance, while getting 1 or 3 usually requires some stalking skills.

    Cheers, Dave

Yes first and last for me. These are excellent but although #2 is a good shot that angle tends to look like it has different sized wings.

Geoff I never noticed that about #2 but now that you mention it, I see it.

#3 for me, it is tack sharp and looks almost prehistoric.

#1 The reeds tend to distract the eye from the bird too much

#2 I'm with Geoff on this one. The wings appear to be different sizes and some of the nature photographers I know become quite pedantic over such minor things.

But having said all that, I like them all.

#1 for me... I think the reeds provide an interesting backdrop and don't distract me from the bird at all. I would possibly crop out the sky though.

All nice. Love the position of the wings in the first.

Definitely #3 forme. As Martin says it just looks prehistoric. (Not reqally sure why we say that, there is no evidence that prehistoric birds looked like this!)

Ha, so true! I have thrown that word around as well! I think that media has put that pre-concieved notion in our heads with so many deception of what they might have looked like. Thanks for looking and commenting!

Great series. It's a strange looking bird with it's long beak, long in body and long legs.

2,3 then 1 for me Barbara but a nice series of a very ugly bird (although I bet his/her Mom didn't think so).

Great set of an interesting bird. I especially like #3.
If their landing is awkward perhaps it's just as well they don't deliver babies

What an ugly looking bird! Sorry birdie...but it does not personify that stork with the baby ones that we are all familiar with...#1 looks sad...all good perfect shots though, still looking ugly, not your shot -- the bird itself...hmm...smells of pop tart...
