I did take the shot at a few different exposures and was thinking about combining the two, but I managed to raise the shadows on the foreground quite a bit and it worked alright.

Lovely image Matt May I ask if you combined two images as the sun isn't blown out and the FG looks bright enough ?

One of the advantages of working in a polluted atmosphere, otherwise the sun has to be closer to the horizon, easy enough at sunrise but very hard at sunset when one is blinded by the still bright sun as it descends. A matter of just a few seconds to get the shot. Nice camerawork and editing [ and you do not need to be shooting raw either ]

If one wants to be pickie one would have had the sun on the left of the lighthouse and the birds would have acted as a bridge connecting the two elements for a lovely vertical image with the reflection of the l/h. Further to the right would have resulted in a 'two's' composition.

I did ask the birds if they would fly past again so I could take that shot but, they just ignored me and flew off.
