Nice composition.
Nice catch...I like the details of the feathers...very good as usual coming from you...
The foreground bird is very good but I do find those out of focus birds behind it to be distracting.
I suspect that just one background bird, or a lot of them, would work better.
Possibly a tighter crop so part of one or both background birds is removed to reduce their overall size might work better? It would, I think, make them more obviously distant instead of appearing badly focused.
Looks like willets. In which case I'd say "small" rather than "littleWondering when you're going to get around to EDBD ones
The OOF birds don't bother me as they are clearly not intended to be in focus. Though I agree it would have been better w/out the intermediate bird or if they were both as soft as the farther bird. Might be some good PP practice with OnOne (i.e.blurring).
Nice shot, I actually like the out of focus birds. They definitely add to the composition for me.
Thanks for the ID on the bird! I am thinking I may never be an EDBD bird girl but that could change, what are you considering EDBD? The day I shot this I focused on the smaller birds, for the most part. I could never give up my first loves, the pelicans! I still have some to PP. I am busy getting ready for "Feather Fest" at Galveston starting tomorrow. I am signed up on 2 field trips
My hubby got me the Canon 100-400mm lens as an early birthday gift to take with me, I am excited to try it out!
I like everything about the image and would not change anything. The featured bird, the accompanying ones in the background, the colours, the varying surface of the water, the reflections in the wet sand all work well together for me.
Barbara, it's good to see that the smaller birds are getting some attention rather than those pelicans hogging all the limelight
I'm very clearly on the side of the 'don't touch a thing' with this image as the additional two birds add much to the composition it all balances so well.
P.S Congratulations on the new lens, I'm sure we are going to see the results pretty soon![]()
Thanks Grahame! Love me some Pelicans! I got the lens today and I have yet to open it upthat is a miracle as I am an instant gratification kind of girl! I will however pull that baby out tomorrow and go to town shooting everything in sight

Lovely capture Barbara, congrats on your early prezzy, will look forward to seeing your images from your trip, have fun![]()
Excellent, Barbara - I think it is outstanding ornithology and art as is. I am definitely in the group that favors the OOF to in-focus line up for this assemblage - makes it much more interesting (and gave you more favorable SS and ISO, too!).
I agree, nice composition.
