Very nice pair; i go for color more![]()
It looks to me like the shadow area between the trees and mountain is a bit muddy. Since it is a broad band at the bottom 1/3 line it detracts somewhat from the image.
I looked at it again and discovered that it isn't so much a shadow as the treeline and what looked like noise are trees. In trying to bring some detail into it, I just made it look worse.

Me too! Hope some the sages will weight in on that one. But they are gorgeous and I do like the B&W.
For the B&W, my first instinct is: brighter/more contrast but that may just be a newbie, stock reaction, and I wouldn't know whether it's better to start on that with the color version before the B&W processing, or not.
Also, things have a rightward lean look, and this is enhanced/confirmed by the lean of the spruces - so whether you were leveled or not, I wonder if a crop to get leftward tilt correction wouldn't settle this image some and squeeze out a little more majesty.
Hi Trevor,I would need more sky and less trees in both images.
Nice shot Trevor, I prefer the colour version in this case.

Yes, my first thoughts were also about that wide dark area in the monochrome version.
You can get away with it in full colour because of those subtle tints, but it all tends to merge together without any fine detail in B&W.
Very nice.
I'm wondering what might happen if you were to brighten up the trees a bit in the b&w. As is, they've lost detail to the darkness, which in turn, affects the entire image. But it's a nice exercise - to compare the same image in both color and b&w.
Thanks for sharing, and good luck.
