    Macro flower photographs

Finally spring seems to be arriving in my garden. The first flowers appear and I am really happy to try out the 105mm macro lens on these. Much better quality than what I got with the Ricoh GX200 (but a lot heavier and more difficult to keep still of course ).

I feel that it is going to be a good spring and summer for me macro-wise.

Feel free to post any flower macros that you have. I love to see them.

Dag Peter, (That is all the Dutch I know, BTW)

Spring visited us for a day, but we woke up to snow this morning. :·(

Not a macro, I took this with my new 50 mm prime at f1.8, a lens I am liking more and more.

Well, the Dutch was pretty good actually
I love that 50mm f1.8 lens. I have it too and used it with the dogs a while ago. Beautiful bokeh and very sharp.

I suppose it was good to be restricted to the kit lenses for so long, to learn all kinds of sharpening techniques, but it is nice to have to do so little of it with this lens now.

Absulutely beautiful and one of my favorite flowers which I haven't seen for about five years. I'm really enjoying this series - I can't wait till we have some blossoms. I don't think that the lilac buds have even started to swell, yet. It's going to be a good month until I can post something, here, too, as you've invited us to do.

    Got a trio to share...

Rosebud with Aphids (don't worry, they were naturally taken care of by ladybug larvae which were also photographed and the rose bloomed without problem)

    Purple Clematis

One from my Wife (but one of my favorites)

    Enjoy!

Is this a dahlia, then? I'm afraid I hardly know anything about them because they don't overwinter, here. Anyway, it's really beautiful! I love all of the subtle, different colors on the buds that are, still, to open on the stalk.

Bill, all three of these are gorgeous but this one is a "Wow!" (but, now, I'm embarrassed to use the word.) Just perfect!

Jim, I always jump to see what you've posted. Your photos always have so much color and texture and detail and clarity. I always appreciate the light and composition in your photos. These are just beautiful. I particularly like #2!

    Katy,

Thanks! Regardless of the recent stigma surrounding the "wow"s, I certainly appreciate a "wow" when I get one, so thank you very much!

I'm really hoping this flower blooms again this year. It doesn't always bloom, and we had two buds on it last year only to have them wilt before blooming. I think our male dog decided they needed extra watering, and tried to help us out! I am hoping to try and almost duplicate the shot, but with the center of the blossom just a little higher or lower in the frame to give it more balance.

Anyway, this is one of my favorites too, and it makes me feel really good that someone like yourself - who takes such fantastic flower shots - likes it as well.

Yes Katy. It is one of 250 species amongst 20,000 Dahlia plants to be seen on the island in the Autumn. It is a magical place.

I took this one and removed the background, is this wrong? Should I have left it?

that would depend on if the background belonged to you in the first place...
