    Camera Software vs Lightroom

I noticed something about my camera software and Lightroom last night. Can anyone help me understand why there's such a clear difference in the same RAW file? I know they're different programs but I didn't think that sensor data would be interpreted so differently.

Here's an example. The pic below is the same source file straight out of the camera and converted to jpeg (for your viewing) by each program. No modifications were made by me. (Snowboarding on my Android phone with my niece.)

Mario, in Lightroom, if you look in Edit, Preferences, Presets you will see that there is an option for auto tone preset on import. I suspect that you have this checked so your image appears on your screen having already had some basic editing.

Thanks for the suggestion Mike. I took a look and the auto tone box isn't selected. You think it may have something to do with the settings in Adobe Camera Raw?

    Have a guess :)

The OEM software is probably honouring picture style metadata tags, whereas ACR ignores them.

Aaah. That seems logical. I guess I could test by taking multiple pics of the same scene and seeing if there's a difference in the oem software but no difference between them in LR?

EDIT: Nevermind. It would make more sense to see if I could find and disable any such feature in the camera's software first. Thanks guys.

An even easier solution that's worked wonders for me ...

... Just don't use the OEM software

HAHAHAHA! Yeah. Yeah. You're right. It doesn't really matter now that I have Lightroom. *doh*
