    Mallards landing

Several mallards were landing on a mostly frozen pond. C&C appreciated.

Nice shot. A little soft on the focus but still nice.

    Quack!

Nice, but I think it needs a faster shot to freeze the action a bit more. Or did it miss the focus point? They are funny, aren't they.

    What was the shutter speed?

    Gents

Thanks for the comments. I like the shot but I have felt that something is slightly off and that sounds like it. The settings were f/16, 1/500 sec, iso 800 at 300 mm.

I have been doing sort of a "duck project" for the past couple of weeks, and the main thing that increased my success rate was holding off shooting until I saw the image sharpen up in the viewfinder. No point pressing the shutter until you see that. I have been just practicing on any flying bird, from seagulls to pigeons, and it becomes easier with practice.

    Re: Mallards landing

Great tip!! I forgot to mention that I was shooting something else and my Dad called my attention to the ducks coming in, so I turned quckly and took a few shots. That is why I am not particularly frustrated over it being just off. Thanks again.
