    Cold!!!!!

It's cold here. I just spent three days of R&R in Tofte, Minnesota. It was a nice getaway from the rat race that work has been. I did get outside on occasion to let the three legged dog do her business but most of the time I was inside catching up on some work related non clinical computer stuff. I did take a few pictures on the run. This one is of the Split Rock Lighthouse from Highway 61. Yes it is the same one Bob Dylan named his album for.

Nice light and texture. Consider using a square format or an 8x10 horizontal format to eliminate some of the sky.

Interesting looking setting. I'll bet it's gorgeous in fall.

Dan, Fall is my favorite time of the year there. We usually spend the first two weeks in November there. That is usually before the cold weather hits. Most of the leaves are usually down so the "fall color seekers" are usually gone. The "gales of November" as described by Gordon Lightfoot are usually active so one can get some good shots of waves crashing on the shore.

I will miss this area when we relocate to Wyoming full time.

Nice. At a quick glance I first thought it was one of those rock-summit castles of central Europe. (Ironically, when I went into CiC and saw your picture, I'd just previously been reading a biography of John Rae and he'd just been over the lake).
It is a pity that the crop has lost the rich blue of the upper sky. I would be inclined to crop somewhat wider to keep more of the setting

I really like them, both; they look more like water color paintings

Hello Paul: I too prefer the second crop. This is a nice capture of the lighthouse. I lived very close to this area, about an hour and a bit to the northeast, just past the Canadian border. This area has some beautiful Lake Superior views.

Suzan, so you are no stranger to cold weather. I wanted to get some shots of the lighthouse from the beach but it was just too cold. I would have had to go over a lot of ice to get there.

It is an interesting side note that this lighthouse was built before roads were built, all materials were transported by barge and hoisted up the cliff. Split Rock Lighthouse was built in response to a particularly bad November storm dashed multiple ships on the shoals.
