    JPEG and bit-depth "innovations"

JPEG hasn't changed...right? It is still 8-bit right? And why do I hear nothing about JPEG 2000? thanks!

If you mean it hasn't changed recently, then you would be correct. The standard does get updated from time to time and I think the last time that happened was back in 2013. The standard is jointly managed by ISO and IEC. I'm not particularly knowledgeable about the standard, so don't know if anything other than 8-bit is used.

    It never really caught on.

I tried using 2000 a few times but found it took a long time to save files, even longer than Tiff, and so few places will accept the format.

Now I use Adobe Psd format for my main storage of images and standard Jpeg for internet use etc. Both of which are fairly universal.
