    Slight improvement, are you sure the images are in the correct order; usually distortion correction decreases the amount of visible area?

    Without tends to look better, although it is not particularly severe in this image.

    Yes "with" has the curved lines at the edges so that one had barrel distortion added in Photoshop. I could have simply cropped it but, I thought, I might add some pop (literally) to have the center bulge out a little. . . . .

    I'd like to know some more about the original exposure - focal length, f-stop, etc.

    There are barrel distortions inherent in some zooms, and I don't have enough information from your post.

    Lenses in the "35mm" class, unless they have shift options, can be somewhat distorted.
