    The orphan

A feral cat we adopted and brought into our home. She escaped a week later, and it took two months before we were able to capture her again using a cat trap. She spent another four months hiding behind the washing machine, before, eventually, deciding she would actually like to live with us. Now she's a little princess of note.

Nice, she's almost lost in that blanket.

Thanks, Maurice. Her and her mom (who is sitting on my lap as I type) were strays who were being fed by a dear elderly friend of ours who died in December. Her mom adjusted relatively quickly to our household (which included three dogs and four other cats), but the 'kitten', who is apparently six years old, was freaked out by the new environment. We were gutted when she escaped, relieved when we managed to recapture her two months later, and, then, terribly worried about her when it seemed she would never adapt. But she did. She is still fiercely independent, but she sleeps on our bed.

I don't think I would really want to hear that story, Izzie. It could not have been easy for such a sensitive soul.

    Re: The orphan

I have a semi-feral cat who lives in my RV garage and keeps it clear of rodents. She will sometimes let me pick her up and sometimes not. However, she seems pretty happy in her large garage with a kitty door to the outside. She is usually waiting for me to feed her...
