Wine in the style of film noir

While I cook the daily evening meal, my wife settles into her corner of our home office where a table lamp casts a strong shadow of her glass of wine on the wall. That's how I got the idea for this image.

    Setup
The background is slightly textured off-white art board. A flashlight positioned to the left of the wine glass and below its bowl is shining upward to create the shadow on the right. The bright light reflecting off the background creates the dark lines that define the edges of the transparent wine glass. A few small reflections of the light source in the wine glass were strategically positioned so they could be easily eliminated during post-processing. The color image was desaturated rather than converted to monochrome (there was so little "color" in the scene that this was one of the very rare situations when I advocate desaturating rather than converting using a color filter).

Somehow the looming glass of wine doesn't seem as scary as the more usual human film noir shadows.

Definitely an interesting concept, and a nicely executed image, Mike.

Thank you, everyone! I'm also going to try some images using multiple shadows and some images that display only the shadows, not the source subject.

Or as frightening as the shadow of a menacing knife blade. I can't imagine (said in my most facetious tone) why the shadow of a glass of wine doesn't look so scary.

Still trying to catch up with myself.

That's a beauty. I expect to see Orson Welles stick his head in at the side of the image.

Thanks, Donald! I'll most definitely take any comparisons with Orson Welles.

Made for a scary mood, even if the object itself wasn't scary. I like it!
