The animals sometimes sustain injuries but it isn't often. I've seen more falls in Barrel Racing and Show Jumping that were injurious to the animals than the Bull or Bronc riding.

To the animals, tossing a rider isn't much more than us brushing off a mosquito. For an animal that weighs around a ton the bulls are remarkably agile. Here is a very short sequence where the bull makes almost a complete circle. Little more than a second as you can see by the position of the rider and observers. The rider wasn't on there long

Sure thing. It's always the first event and was up at the end of the arena. I was getting setup for the main events and didn't shoot much of it. What I did I haven't really looked at yet. It was mostly to get my head in to action mode and figure out how I wanted framing and backgrounds from my shooting position.

For the most accurate answer, you'd have to ask the animal.
I'd imagine spurs rubbed up and down one's hide would not be soothing.
    Good insightful question.
In my limited experience (I've ridden a few steers and a couple of young bulls - too risky for me), I get the sense that some animals seem to enjoy the fight, while most it seems are righteously annoyed by the whole process.
