    Drone

Does anyone here have a drone? I'm thinking of getting one and putting a Go Pro on it. My wife thinks I am nuts.

I noticed recently that eBay camera and photography section has a drone section. http://www.ebay.com/sch/Camera-Drone...n_89951/i.html

My son-in-law is an avid saltwater fisherman and is experimenting with using a drone to spot schools of tuna from his boat...

    Re: Drone

First I do not have a drone. I have been involved with RC Aircraft (Planes and Helicopters) now for nearly 30+ Years. (on a bit of a hiatus at the moment with family and such). As a matter of fact I even learned to fly my first plane in Wyoming - that is right where the wind ALWAYS BLOWS. I digress.

In recent years with the drone/gps technology becoming more and main stream, it has really impacted the RC Hobby. In some cases in a negative light. We now have FAA intervention into the Hobby (RC Pilots require cert from FAA in addition to there normal Insurance/Memberships) and RC Pilots can get lumped in with Drone Pilots. I am generalizing a bit here, and for that I apologize, but it only takes one story about a Drone Pilot who crashed into a crowd and hurt someone to set a bad image for ALL RC and those doing it responsibly.

This is no different for RC aircraft either and there are documented cases where people have been hit by an RC Aircraft and severely injured. For the longest time these were within the confines of approved RC Fields and generally not as main stream.

What am I getting at? Just a simple request from an avid RC Hobbyist, I would only ask that you understand the technology, the current requirements and act accordingly. FAA certification is required in some cases (I do not know the specifics...). I am personally worried that when I do return to the US at some point, the hobby I loved as a kid and growing up will be clouded and seen in a negative light.

    Just my two cents....

    Erik,

Thanks for the tips. You bring up some good points. Not only will some of these hobbies be seen negatively but then regulations and restrictions begin to appear because of the actions of a few.
