    Camera viewfinder specs

Most camera specifications show information about the viewfinder.

For example part of the VF specs for the 1DX Mark II say this (but most other cameras have the same type of information with only the numbers being different).

Coverage : Approx. 100% vertically and horizontally
Magnification: Approx. 0.76x (-1m-1 with 50mm lens at infinity) / 35.1° angle of view

I understand what coverage means but what does magnification mean?

The reason I am asking is that sometimes with flying birds it is possible for the bird to be larger than the VF framed view as it gets bigger and bigger the closer it gets.

But the resulting pics or the earlier portions of the sequence in which the wings appear to be clipping in the VF are actually not clipped in the actual images. How can that be ??

    Thanks.

Usually best to go to the source (camera manufacturer) but I found this here. http://snapsort.com/learn/viewfinder/coverage
