    Helsinki Cathedral - interior shots

I find I like shooting church interiors during my travels (it gets me a chance to pull out the ultra-wide angle lens). These buildings tend to be full of visitors so an ultra-wide angle lens lets one step in front of the crowds and get a clean image without any people. I tend to prefer this sterile look for these types of images.

Helsinki Cathedral is a Lutheran church, so it is decorated in a far simpler style than Catholic churches.

    1. Altar - D800 at f/2.8 15mm. Manual perspective correction

    2. Organ - D800 at f/2.8 24mm - No perceptive correction as I like the the the distortion frames the organ. There was a chandelier hanging down, in front of where I was standing, so the cable that held it has been removed in PP.

I have an interesting time blend on the building exterior using the "time blending" technique, but still have at least an hour of work left on that image, so hopefully it will be up in a few days.

Both images have a very clean, pristine appearance. Well done!

    Both images are good.

But this is tremendous. A true work of art. Superb image.

Beautifully framed, exposed and processed Manfred (did the window highlights need some work as well?). Lovely work.

Very little work was required (playing with the ACR whites and highlights sliders). I had bracketed some shots in case the windows had blown out, but the dynamic range of the image was fine and I had enough data to work with. The "hottest" white reading I get in the original 16-bit ProPhoto file is around (250, 250, 250). I didn't check what the output jpeg that I posted shows.

Thanks Donald. This type of shooting is why I love UWA lenses. We were hardly alone in the place, as you can see in this image, but I just stepped up to the barrier that kept the crowds away from that part of the building.

I pushed the PP work to get a full colour range in the image and that really ended up giving that ethereal look to the image.
