    The 3rd Kingdom - Fungi

So, as Geoff said, its that time in the northern hemisphere, well it is here in UK anyway, we head into autumn and thats the prime time for the fruiting bodies that we call Fungi

This one is a Parrot Waxcap - Hygrocybe psittacina var psittacina, well I think it is anyway

small and in a space created by an overhang on a bank so not the easiest to get at and not striking, but an interesting shade of green with the moss

Nice, makes the foliage look miniaturized.

The only fungus I heard of lately is one from a tv advert of a battling toe-nail fungus...

Seriously, I have not seen a green fungus before...your EXIF says you used a 150mm lens. How far were you from this fungus? Just curious...

    Hi Mark,

I am intrigued by what appears to be something metal to the right of the fruiting body - is that something you put there to hold an errant scrap of foliage out of the way?

Full EXIF for those interested: Nikon D7100, 150mm (f/2.8) lens at f/11, 1/250s, ISO 400 with Flash, shot RAW processed in ACR (9.2) and PS CC.

I admire your dedication, I can't be bothered getting down on hands and knees

    Cheers, Dave

Life in miniature. I like it. I've often thought that I'm neglecting fungi and should pay them more attention. Maybe someday when I can't chase the members of the animal kingdom any more

    Thanks all,

John, yep - loved the moss working with it to challange scale

    Cheers Dave

Izzie, about 13 inches or so its my favorite lens, sigma 150 macro

Hi Dave H, its actually a small bug ovipositing into the moss, almost moved focus whenb i spotted it but decided on the fungi after all as i decided it was really too small was not easy to get must admit, first glance it looked like a small unripe acorn under the overhang, but decided it was worth the effort when i realised it was fungi

Cheers Dan, They are well worth it - dont fly / run / hop / slither away, not impacted by wind, often very colourful - and close up on Gills etc fascinating in detail
    Thanks Jim, appreciated
