'Bug' Alert - What I am really waiting for

is these guys coming out to play

Took this one last year - dragonflys always remind me of military attack helicopters, its what the Apache designer had in mind when he dreampt that gunship up - and getting this one on barbed wire kinda ticked the box - Natures Military inspiration

You will have to wait a bit longer before the Darters return; although they do go on a bit longer than many species. Well into the autumn in some locations.

However, there will hopefully be a few Damsels appearing soon, if only we can clear away all this rain and gales!

As the days start to lengthen I also begin to get impatient and want to find interesting insects once again.

yep, starting to look closer at the reed stems on sunny days from now on - last year lots of damsels around my pond by beginning of May. So hopefully mid April will be a good starting point this year.

The dragon needs to be careful. There are other predators who can use barbed wire.

The Loggerhead Shrike is a small bird but it's a predator and might well deserve to be classified as a raptor.

Nicely done and processed Mark...comparing them to helicopters seem to be appropriate...
