Only stumbled on this neat tip for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 yesterday
Just found a top tip for those running Windows 7 service pack 1:
After every update it gets bigger and bigger and BIGGER; my PC started life about 5 years ago,but with no more software has grown from 33GB to 55.7GB which is a little worrying since I put it in a 100GB partition for easy mirroring.
Without a fanfare or drama M$ have created an optional update to fix that, well almost. I've recovered 7GB of disc space but are still a long way from the original size.
They however don't tell you it takes ages to clean the disc and restart takes a very very long time, irritating watching a screen which states 'don't turn off you computer' for 15 minutes.

Pleased to help everybody; it's been out since 2013 and I never heard of it. There is another link at the bottom which goes into more detail, after clicking restart the computer configures and then restarts again . It takes it's time to clean up but my PC started much quicker this morning.

Steve check my system and it shows that is running, however I have never run the disk clean up until today.

Thanks Steve but in my case it says 'this update is not applicable to your computer'. I run Win 7 pro. Maybe due to CCleaner?

Here's a more powerful, faster and more thorough piece of software...

click on clean up 4.5.2 (top r/h of screen) then download button on the next page.
Choose Standard cleanup in the options page and yer good tae go. Been using this for years.
