    You have done well to actually catch a Jackdaw in the act. They occasionally visit an open top feeder in my garden but just swoop down grab a peanut or something else which takes their fancy and then they are gone; before one of the resident crows can catch them.

    Crows and Rooks are certainly crafty birds and I have regularly seen them upending a fat ball container to extract the whole ball.
