    Orchid water color

A good friend of mine who shall remain nameless, maybe, issued a challenge...make an orchid
into a water color look. I think it looks okay...what say you all?

It's a nice shot, but is far too crisp to be a watercolour. A bit more work to soften the edges and to reduce the more vibrant colours will get you closer to your goal.

    Aah...don't understand what you mean.
soften the edges and to reduce the more vibrant colours
    Can do, thanks.

If you're really serious about this approach, there are lots of tutorials at "photo art" web sites about how to convert an image into a water color.

I like your photo a lot. You preserved great detail everywhere except one small area in each of two flowers. Check out the top two flowers on the right side of the left stem.

Nicely done, leaning more towards airbrush art in the contrast and color capture.

    Hi Chauncey,

Thank you for sharing. As you know I hope to learn more about this look but I think the colours and edges of the petals need to be softer, sort of a fade away look but almost like a drawing in that sometimes they seem to show lots of detail.

See the orchids in this link

Softer version, but I gotta say that I don't like it or the Japanese watercolor look...the soft colors
are there but the detail is missing. Completely reprocessed.

I have a novel idea : Make an image that you like for the reasons you like it regardless of whether it emulates a widely recognized style of photography or any other art.

    Hi Chauncey,

Just to say that I also prefer the original. Nevertheless thank you for sharing. I will try this on one of my swans.

Make an image that you like for the reasons you like it
That makes entirely too much sense.

For a water colour look, I'd blend in paper texture.

    Cheers

Pretty flowers but I'd like them better on a background. Perhaps on textured art paper in a very pastel color.
