Testing triptych

Interesting shot. I was looking at trying something like that on a photo shoot I am planning on over the next week; different subject matter, but a similar idea.

This is really terrific! It would work just as well, though certainly differently, when displayed as one image. Indeed, I think this type of triptych wouldn't work so well if the single image didn't work really well on its own.

The point I want to make, despite how obvious it might be, is that this is not just one image divided into thirds, separated and matted. Instead, the two vertical parts of the mat in the middle are actually hiding the parts of the image that otherwise would be displayed. It's that design that converts one image into three images that makes the flow between them so successful.

Thanks for displaying this, as I've got a very similar image that would work well when displayed this way. Without seeing your experiment, I would never have thought of displaying it this way.

I took some time to do this. Rather clumsy I am perhaps...

One special note to Mike if you don't mind.
Glass is far more difficult then books/paper. You glass images are gorgeous Mike !
Try your own images this way and you will see that they "deserve" such a treatment !

I am wondering how it would look with the vertical white borders slightly more narrow?

I've reviewed the triptych and the single image several times now and I keep coming away with the same conclusion -- that the triptych makes the lines seem more dynamic than the single image. I have no idea why but that's so, but that's my impression after every viewing.
