Hi Chris,
Which do you mean?
MP (Mega Pixels) = image dimensional area
or
MB (Mega Bytes) = filesize
On the D7100, there are two settings that will affect image dimension area (MP) - as mentioned by others:
DX mode = "24 x 18" = 24 MP = 6000 x 4000 pixels
(typical 14 bit, lossless compressed, RAW file size = approx. 34 MB)
1.3X mode = "18 x 12" = 15 MP = 4800 x 3200 pixels
(typical 14 bit, lossless compressed, RAW file size = approx. 20 MB)
It really doesn't help that Nikon interchangeably use either: "18 x 12" and "24 x 18" in some areas of the menus, displays and manuals and "1.3X" or "DX" in other places, to describe the same setting.
That said, I love the 1.3X mode and very often use it for distant wildlife.
My Nikon D7100 manual's index says the topic is mentioned on pages 58, 63, 68 and 167.
There are many things that will affect the file sizes (MB);
RAW or JPG
JPG quality setting (Fine, Medium, Standard)
RAW compression settings (uncompressed, lossless compressed, lossy compressed)
RAW bit depth (12 or 14)
Using Nikon's ViewNX software will allow full disclosure of even a RAW file's settings for all the above.
Can't say what Vivenza makes of it as I don't have it.
Also, file size as reported in an editing programme can vastly differ from what the camera shot depending what image format it thinks you're going to save in.
HTH, Dave
