Blair Mill Sheave Tower - Summer

I think I have finished my project now. An image of the Sheave Tower of the Blair Mill, taken in every season. The complication for me was that the location is a six hour drive from home, to the town where my daughter was attending community college. My brother-in-law lives nearby and my father and brother are about an hour by car away, so I do get into that part of the country a few times a year.

I started this project last October, when we were down for (Canadian) Thanksgiving. We were down again for my father's 90th birthday in January, for Easter in early spring, an awards ceremony, where my daughter received an award in late spring, and this weekend, the end of the school term, to pick up my daughter and to move her back home. This gave me a very limited opportunity each trip, to get out and make the shot and the weather was what it was and the timing was largely dictated by my schedule.

So this is my last shot of the series, taken in the summer, using a /f3.5 24mm Nikkor PC-E (perspective adjustment) lens.

Somewhat surprisingly, this was probably the toughest shot. The area is a conservation area, so one can't just go about knocking down branches and stomping down on the undergrowth. The place was quite overgrown, so there were fairly limited places to shoot it from. I even had my long rubber boots on and had my tripod sitting in the stream that runs by the mill.

I think the image is well worthy of your efforts, may we see all 4 as a series?

    Congratulations, Manfred.

Not a big project, but one that required commitment, dedication and determination. You've achieved your goal with a very fine image that, when put with the others, makes a set of which you should be proud.

Now that's dedication Manfred and another good image for the final in the series. The change in the scene through the year is quite dramatic.

Great series and a satisfying outcome to a years dedication. I wonder what they would look like all printed on the same sheet and hung. Would be interesting.

Winter and fall are the most appealing images of the series and as a sequence they are all quite charming.

Edit is OK… always want to learn!

Re: Blair Mill Sheave Tower - Summer

Hey Manfred, I see your winter shot is the most pleasing one… the tones in
there have a beautiful quality… and effect on me.

Not to mention that it is absolutely free from unresolved keystone adjustments.

This series would make a wonderful series, hanging on a wall! I would omit the early Spring, as it's from a different angle, but the remaining 4 are beautiful! Gives me an incentive to find something interesting, and do this. Thanks for sharing!

BTW, my favorites are Fall, and Winter!

I'm glad that you are able to finish your project succesfully Manfred, wonderful images and very good training for us to see the change in the same subject through seasons I loved the winter and the fall.

These are terrific! It must be very satisfying to have planned such a project requiring visits during particular parts of the year, hoping to be there when the weather is ideal, figuring out how to make do when it's not and then completing it. Well done!

By the way, it has been fun following along in your project as you completed each photo.

EDIT: It just occurred to me that you have now one-upped Vivaldi. He wrote The Four Seasons and you photographed all five of them.

First to comment on your latest photo: I really like how the foliage frames the building. I don't look at this and wonder if you were constrained in your options for composition. For me it stands well on it's own. I remember your posting the previous shots, but I'm glad you reposted them to remind us what a wonderful project this was! What a great series. Well done!
