    Only the sweetest die young!

I got a phone call from the bird sanctuary today: …"and Daphnée… —you
remember Daphnée?— well she did do it over the night… she was found
in her empty nest this morning and…"

I shot Daphnée last February as the mascot of the sanctuary, they printed
some flyers for their annual fond raising campaign.

My last look at Daphnée, C&C welcome.

Nice capture and composition. the nest with the hanging wire really gives the image added texture.

I was shocked to see the barbed wire there… but they explained me it was
to keep predators and other pests in check since the nests are rather low
to permit access to the vet. Thanks for the comment!"

    Answer to a PM:

No! Stork (as other wading birds, even chickens) often stay one legged
for long periods of time! Daphnée's problem was that she ate a prey that
had swallowed a bottle cap. Her stomach may digest preys but most of
them have a darn hard time with bottle caps!

    Thanks Isabelle and Caddy!

In the meantime, this photograph was adopted as logo for the rescue centre!

That is a very nice shot, evoking a feeling of peace, despite the wire. Nice colors. We do make connections with the wildlife we photograph. Sorry to hear that she is gone.
